The landscape of charitable gift planning is always shifting. Non-cash assets continue to play a growing role in donor portfolios, and the new tax law is reshaping the conversations advisors, attorneys, and development professionals are having every day.
The Western Michigan Planned Giving Group is convening a panel of expert practitioners to dig into both — together. Join us for a peer-level conversation on strategies for noncash gift vehicles, the tax implications of recent legislation, and how to work effectively across disciplines to serve today's donors well.

About the panelists:

Jenny Beach, CFP®, CPWA®

Manager, Plante Moran Financial Advisors

Jenny provides comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory services to high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, many of whom are current or retired business owners. She serves as a personal CFO by providing strategies to optimize their personal wealth through investment advice, estate planning, personal tax planning, charitable giving, and education savings. Jenny earned her  B.A. in finance and economics with a minor in mathematics from Grand Valley State University.

Dan Poortenga, Vice President

National Christian Foundation (Michigan)

Dan grew up in a small, family business in West Michigan. After graduating Calvin University
he went on to earn a JD/MBA from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. Most of his career was spent at
two West Michigan M&A advisory firms where he worked on transactions involving lower middle
market companies, many of which were family businesses. In his current role at NCF, Dan encourages generosity and coordinates gifts, including gifts of interests in businesses and real estate prior to their sale. 

Lindsay Canan, J.D.

Director of Planning, Barnabas Foundation

Lindsay served as a private practice attorney in Michigan before joining the Barnabas Foundation team in 2022. Lindsay was named to the Michigan Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list for her work in estate planning and probate/trust administration, and she is an adjunct professor of estate planning and elder law at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. Lindsay graduated from Hope College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned her Juris Doctor degree with honors at Western Michigan Cooley Law School.
